In the past, the Itupava-Path was used to link Curitiba to the coast. After Estrada da Graciosa and the railroad were built, it was not used for transportation anymore. In the 80´s and 90´s, young people found it to be a great adventure alternative.
Due to the extreme, uncontrolled use, the path had become difficult. In a German-Brazilian project the path was rediscovered and mud was taken away from the stones, bridges were built and visitors' centres were created at the beginning and the end of the path.
The Itupava-Path is now a wonderful alternative for those looking for adventure in the middle of the rain forest, discovering its impressive fauna and flora.
It begins in Quatro Barras, about 20 km from Curitiba, and ends in Porto de Cima/Morretes.
Difficulty Level: Participants should be in good shape and be able to walk for at least eight hours. There will be a descent to the Itupava-Path. If the group is mixed (with different ability levels), the hike might last longer.
Participants may please note that the tour may be cancelled due to weather conditions. In such a situation, an alternative tour will be suggested.
